Booklet on “Floral and Avifaunal Diversity of Himachal Pradesh”

The first week of July is celebrated as Van Mahotsav all over the country. Active plantation drives are undertaken by various departments and organizations in Himachal Pradesh also as monsoon favors plant growth during this time. The aim of this programme is to create awareness regarding the importance and preservation of the forest. On this occasion HP ENVIS Hub at Himachal Pradesh Council for Science, Technology & Environment (HIMCOSTE) released a booklet on “Floral and Avifaunal Diversity of Himachal Pradesh”. Booklet was unveiled by Hon’ble Chief Minister, Himachal Pradesh Shri Jai Ram Thakur.
This booklet is an outcome of Green Skill Development Programme of Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change (MoEF&CC), GoI executed by HP ENVIS Hub. Taxonomic details, identification features and medicinal uses in traditional knowledge systems have been documented for various plant species. Similarly, for commonly found bird species, identification features, distribution and nesting behavior have been listed.
The Hon’ble CM appreciated the initiative in bringing out this booklet in the present COVID-19 pandemic situation in which the importance and preservation of biodiversity of Himalayan region is highly significant. This booklet would be a valuable and easy to carry reference guide for students, trekkers, researchers and staff of Forest Department for identification of plants and birds during field works.
