Report on World Wetlands Day - 2024

 World Wetlands Day is celebrated annually on2nd February to raise awareness of the importance of wetlands for people and the planet. The day marks the anniversary of the signing of the Convention on Wetlands of International Importance (Ramsar Convention) in 1971. Wetlands are essential for humans, other ecosystems, and the climate. They provide essential ecosystem services, such as water regulation, flood control, and water purification. More than one billion people worldwide depend on wetlands for their livelihoods. The theme for World Wetlands Day 2024 is "Wetlands and Human Wellbeing". This theme highlights the critical role wetlands play in enhancing lives. It highlights how wetlands contribute to flood protection, clean water, biodiversity, and recreational opportunities.

The EIACP PC-Hub at Himachal Pradesh Council for Science, Technology & Environment (HIMCOSTE), Shimla celebrated World Wetlands Day on 2nd February, 2024 in Collaboration with Himachal Pradesh State Wetlands Authority at four locations viz., Renuka Ji Wetland (Ramsar site), Pong Dam Wetland (Ramsar site), Rewalsar Wetland and Govind Sagar Wetland.
