Celebrated WORLD OZONE DAY - 2021 September 16, 2021 by HP ENVIS Hub, HIMCOSTE, Shimla

 The World Ozone Day or International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer is celebrated on 16th September every year to commemorate the signing of the Montreal Protocol on the Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer which was signed on 16th September, 1987. India become party to the Montreal Protocol in June 1992 and prepared the country program in 1993 for phasing out the Ozone Depleting Substances. The main purpose to focus global attention and action on this vital environmental issue. The ozone layer is a fragile shield of gas that protects the Earth from the harmful portion of the rays of the sun, thus helping preserve life on the planet. The theme of World Ozone Day 2021 this year is Montreal Protocol - Keeping Us, Our Food and Vaccines Cool.

HP ENVIS Hub at Himachal Pradesh Council for Science, Technology & Environment (HIMCOSTE) celebrated the World Ozone Day in the State by organizing online and offline activities for school students and general public.

HP ENVIS Hub in collaboration with National Green Corps Programme (NGC-ECO-Club) jointly organized two offline activities ‘Plantation’ & ‘Nature Walk-cum-Cleaning Campaign’ at Aanandpur Panchayat near Shoghi, Shimla, Himachal Pradesh. Sh. Nishant Thakur, Joint Member Secretary, HIMCOSTE graced the occasion as Chief Guest. In his address he explained the importance of Ozone layer to the mankind. He stressed that we should take steps to protect ozone layer by reducing the use of all the things which causes ozone depletion. Smt. Sunita Devi, Panchayat Pradhan; Sh. Ahok Rohal Vice Pradhan, ward members, Principal of Aanandpur School & school teachers, district science supervisor, officials of HP Forest Department and HIMCOSTE around 80 persons participated in the Nature walk-cum-Cleanliness and plantation campaign. A knowledge product was also printed by HP ENVIS Hub and circulated amongst the persons present during the programme. The knowledge product was also circulated through social media platforms and on HP ENVIS Hub website for wider publicity and information.
