Mandi MC told to file affidavit on waste dumping

aking a serious view of the issue of throwing of municipal solid waste (MSW) into the Beas, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) has directed the Executive Officer of the Mandi Municipal Council to file an affidavit explaining a complete mechanism of the collection of the solid waste in Mandi and its disposal.

It further directed to explain whether the solid waste was being thrown directly or indirectly into the river or any other stream. It also directed to furnish information on the status of environment clearances pending before the State Level Environment Impact Assessment Authority for the establishment of the Municipal Solid Waste Plant at Mandi and steps taken in this regard.

While holding a circuit court sitting, the NGT, headed by Justice Swatantar Kumar, observed that it was a case of complete neglect on the part of the MC.
